The international seminar ‘Capanema Today’, organised by FAU UFRJ at the invitation of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, took place at the Gustavo Capanema Palace in Rio de Janeiro in March 2026. This event celebrated the reopening of the building following its restoration and offered an opportunity to reflect on its significance for modern architecture, heritage conservation, research and contemporary cultural practices. The programme included panel discussions and the opening of the exhibition ‘The Gustavo Capanema Palace: Yesterday and Today – Architecture, City and Culture’. Professor Giulia Marino and Professor Franz Graf were invited as keynote speakers to deliver a lecture aimed at stimulating debate on the conservation of modern architecture.
